Plainly Speaking: Freedom of Speech?

Plainly Speaking

A Commentary by Chuck Adkins

March 31, 2007

As I sit here tonight, I really am disturbed by what I have been seeing in the Media.  First it was Ann Counter's remarks about John Edwards. Now, I read that Michael Savage said that 9/11 was "God Speaking to America".

My question to anyone that reads this blog.  Have we become such a warped society, that this sort of offensive speech is the norm?  Being someone that comes from a Christian background, and someone who was raised by my parents, not to say nasty things about other people and to respect others, no matter how different they are, or how they look or how they dress or any of that sort of thing. I find this sort of thing disturbing. I could get into a rather long theological discourse about this, But, because I don't want people leaving my blog in droves, thinking I am some sort of Religious zealot, So, I'll refrain from the sermon tonight.

Freedom of Speech, The very word conjures up images in my mind.  Some of the images, I'm quite comfortable with and some, quite frankly, make me want to squirm.  In the name of Free speech and in the name of constitutional freedom, have we overstepped the line? Have the lines blurred? or are there even lines anymore?

Admittedly, I highly doubt that the founding fathers of this great nation, intended that the Constitution be used as a vehicle of such offensive speech, as we see today in America. To think, of the countless men who gave their lives in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, and all the other wars. Just so some guy in Mill Valley, California can sit at a Microphone and utter such venomous hate rhetoric, utterly makes me sick.  What a utter waste of our precious freedoms we hold dear, as United States Citizens.  Let me be the first to say, that isn't freedom, Not at all, That's freeloading, Freeloading of our Constitutional freedoms as natural born American Citizens, to further a hate filled ideology. You, Mr. Savage, are a disgrace to this Country, A disgrace to this Nation, A disgrace to the Constitution of the United States of America.  Every Veteran that dies in Iraq, his blood, is on your hands. because every time you open your mouth, and utter such hate, you're causing their deaths to be in vain. I do truly hope that you are proud of yourself.

I was watching CNN tonight. and I saw the "Chocolate Jesus" Story. Here's another freeloader. This guy ought to get his "Chocolate Jesus" Cut off and shoved in his mouth and be beaten until he cannot walk! The Roman Catholic's are pissed, and rightly so. I'm not fan of Rome, as my Bible calls it, "The Great W**ORE of Babylon".  But what this guy is doing is nothing short of pure blasphemy. and is a utter desecration to the name of the Almighty God, of whom of country's values are based upon. This sort of ignorance would be have been unheard of many years ago and would have gotten him tossed in jail. Where I believe he belongs now. Sorry Liberals, Freedom of speech is one thing, offensive speech is another.  There is a difference, look it up.

This World has lost it's moral compass, When are we going to find it? In this digital age, Morals, Respect for our fellow man, and a decent sense of responsibly for our own actions, has gone out the window and at best, is considered old hat. and possibly even the dreaded word, Analog.

Another thing that I find very disturbing, is the people who harass bloggers, especially female bloggers. Now, I happen to think the recent story was blown a little out of whack.  However, using the Internet to stalk and harass people, is totally inexcusable. The same mentality the drives the people to do this sort of thing, is the same mentality that drove the hijackers to fly the planes into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. and that is? Fear. Disagree with me? tough crap.

In Closing, Let me say this, There is big difference between Freedom of Speech and Expression and offensive Speech and Expression, and God Help those that the do not know the difference between the two. and God help those that have to exist near you or around you.

And that's my take on it.

Good Night and Good Luck.........
